La formation Tricot machine
a remporté le troisième Grand Prix de la relève musicale Archambault, décerné
jeudi en fin d'après-midi.
Le groupe de Trois-Rivières,
composé de Catherine Leduc et Matthieu Beaumont, a séduit le jury avec son
album éponyme distribué par Outside Music
sous l'étiquette Grosse Boîte. Une bourse de 10 000 $ est remise à la formation
gagnante. Pour sa part, le producteur obtient 2000 $ pour faire la promotion de
l'album.
Le jury était composé de
journalistes culturels et de gens de l'industrie du disque. La chanteuse France
D'Amour, porte-parole de l'événement, se retrouvait aussi sur le jury qui a
estimé que les compositions musicales et les textes de Tricot machine
«apportent un vent de fraîcheur au sein de la chanson québécoise».
Parmi les critères d'admissibilité
à ce prix, il fallait que l'artiste ou le groupe québécois ait lancé un premier
album au cours de l'année 2007.
Outre Tricot machine, sept
artistes ou groupes étaient en nomination soit Alfa Rococo, Gaële,
Le Husky, Bruno Marcil, Plajia,
et Samian.

The Germanium series continues with the
GERMANIUM Compressor. The GERM Comp starts with the same all class A amp found in the GERM Pre and Tone Control and is
transformer balanced in and out. The Compression circuit uses a FET gain
reduction element but with the tricks and flexibilty
of all the GERM units. Some of the most notable additions include a WET/DRY mix
(for “submixing” tracks within the comp), COMP CURVE
(which selects the knee using various diode combinations), CLEAN/DIRTY COMP,
and SIDECHAIN FILTER. Many of the GERM Comp parameters have been purposely set
by studio use and listening, not by over analysing
them with test gear. The result is a musical powerhouse for ready for tracking,
mixing, and mastering.

Manley – Manley – Manley Passive Massive Mastering EQ……
There are two ways to
explain passive equalization:
First, one can describe the
circuit as a series of passive filters made up of resistors and inductors,
followed by a make-up amplifier on the output which restores the amplitude lost
by inserting the filters.
OR, we can use the much more
fun one-word description: "Pultec"! Yep,
those old, three-rack-space mono monsters are passive EQs
with a honkin’ tube amp on their back-end.
This is a different
principle than "active" EQs like the famous
Neves, which have a more aggressive sound. The magic
of a good passive EQ is that it is subtle but VERY musical, enabling many db of
boost without sounding artificial.
For instance, the
low-boost on the famous Pultec EQP-1A has been the
BIG knob for kick-drum for decades. When you dial in that Pultec
60hz for the first time, you immediately recognize it
from major recordings.
Manley’s Massive Passive is
a brilliant modern rendition of the passive EQ, and one of our absolute
favorite devices ever made. (And forget those plug-ins, they don’t cut it! If
you want the sound of real passive EQ, analog hardware is a must!)

The Shadow
Hills Quad GAMA is a four channel version of the Gama,
with all the capabilities, features, and quality of the original.
The preamplifier input is transformer balanced and utilizes an original Jensen
input transformer. We couldn't decide
which vintage output transformer we liked best, so we had our favorites
perfectly recreated, and included them all. You can change output
transformers with the flick of a switch, thus changing the tonal capabilities
to compliment to whatever material you are recording. This allows you to
audition different settings to find the perfect match for microphone or direct
input without patching and un-patching other preamps, and possibly alleviating
the need for EQ. Choose between Nickel, Discrete, or Steel settings, or upgrade
the Discrete to Iron. Each transformer position is stellar unto itself, but the
capability of switching between them is like having three great pre's in one.
The microphone gain is controlled by discrete attenuators made from custom
twenty-four position Elma switches. This means that all of the channels are
perfectly matched to each other and will never wear out like a pot can. Unlike
other boutique companies that offer expensive stepped, or mastering options,
but limit you to twelve positions, or use stepped pots that can fail over time,
ours have twice the resolution and are included in the price.
All the standard Mic-pre features are present:
phantom power, phase reverse, a twenty dB pad, and direct input. We have also
included the ability to pad and reverse the phase of the Direct Input. The
separate power supply is very robust and can power two units.
Quality is also unmatched. Twelve gauge steel chassis, engraved front panels,
large custom knobs, and personalized engraved serial number plates, set the
build apart. The design esthetic is reminiscent of 1930's futuristic military technology, that has only now been realized. Features:

The Chandler Limited TG1 is a recreation of the classic EMI
TG12413 Limiter used in custom EMI and
TG equipment was used on many classic records and this Limiter was featured
on every channel of TG consoles used to record The Beatles "Abbey
Road", several Pink Floyd records including "Dark Side of the
Moon", Paul McCartney, and the Rolling Stones.
The Limiter/Compressor features an all discrete circuit with transformer
balanced input and output. The limiting element is a rarely seen diode network
that produces smooth, pleasing distortion. The warm open sound, often compared
to a Fairchild 670 set to stun, is very audible and squishy sounding while
maintaining its clarity and high frequency response.

These incredibly smooth sounding transistors were the basis of the earliest
transistor designs by Neve (1053, 1055, 1057), EMI ( TG12345 MKI), Telefunken,
